This is a thread for non-theme related questions, contest announcements (such as the next and future themes), general bWDC discussion and future theme suggestions.

If anyone here is advertising the contest on an outside site, please use this as the contest link. It will help to have a stable thread to come to (thank you Akira for pointing this out).

If you are new to the contest, don't hesitate to ask any questions.

We're currently in the middle of the animated gif theme (found here).

Bi-weekly drawing contest?

A while back I was speaking with Hanna about allowing more than just drawings. I think this was shown in the animated gif theme, where 2 pieces were based off of photographs of some sort. Even though the contest is titled the bi-Weekly Drawing Contest, I don't feel we should limit the media used.

Is anyone willing at designing a banner better than the one in my signature? I feel the one I made is lacking and should be replaced with a better one.

Just putting this out there, Bika. Consider first that you can draw so it makes sense that you like the contest as is. Secondly, look at the traffic pOnju's been getting lately. This place has been slow. I can't draw at all, but my videos are honestly pretty damn good. So I'd want AMVs or regular type music videos in there so that I could actually have something to do around here.

well since you're all arguing about videos not fitting in because it's Bi-Weekly DRAWING Contest, why not revamp the entire thing and go towards a Bi-Weekly ART Contest. That way we can adapt to most forms of art, people like yoko can resort to video. I'm experimenting with video myself, as you might have seen (or not), this could give me a chance to expound my media experimentation and not be stuck with pencil/ink and paper.

Di3s3l, you reminded me of something Hanna and I started to discuss but never really went too deep into. Making this more of an art contest rather than limiting it to a drawing contest. I still have to think of a way to go about this, though. Somehow figure out restrictions relating to themes, perhaps have media-based themes, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions about how we can expand the bWDC to allow other styles of art?

Also, I would like to ask, does anyone think the contest would benefit from a page on Deviant Art, where we would post the entries to past contests, as well as announce the next theme, winners, and so on? This might also help bring in other participants and new forum members. Again, any suggestions?

You can have all specific/pure media themes and mixed media themes depending on how hard your theme is. This could lead towards ease when judging other media besides drawings. Although it may limit some users at first, it may peak interest to experiment with other media and eventually lead to more entries and or more creative or surprising content.

It's not all positive though, doing so could just backfire and hurt what small community we have now.

It basically depends on what others are willing to do. It's still up to this community to participate whether it be videos, photo montages, .gifs, ink, pencil, photography, whatever. Not to mention site traffic and the number of posts per day, as well as fresh members have dwindled to droplets since we "actually" participated.[and by WE meaning the entirety of pOnju]

IMO this would do very little, if nothing really. Even as a type of web-zine, it's going to lack content if existing people don't participate. And that's asking quite a bit considering how busy we oldies are, we have lives now. What we need here are new people who are actually interested in entering constantly, and have the free time to do so. How do we get that?

I remember what attracted me to this forum was originally webcomics. It was when Nova was managing the WDC for TC, which I read quite constantly when I was in my "Love Hina" phase. When I saw the link for the AC on the main site, I basically joined pOnju as well. How many webcomics have gone down since those days?

I'm past my "Love Hina" phase, it's bye-bye TC for me.

Saturnalia is on hiatus.

Club Ph34r has N8, and he's doing his best to keep it coming, but it seems only a select few people read it nowadays, and that's from following old chapters of ATHG.

Are people still reading Demonology 101?

We've got some content here I haven't touched myself like Palabok[yeah noypis!], ROMB and Ghost Hunters.

Thing is, if theres still fresh content, posts and members coming into these regions of pOnju, why aren't they integrating themselves with the rest of the site anymore? What happened along the way? What did we miss? Why can't we attract new members to the general portion of the site? Does the maturity of most topics tend to deter younger and newer members?

In anycase, what I'm trying to say is we need to start here. People here need to start integrating with the rest of the site, and each other again in a more playful manner. We're so damn intellectual and serious it's no longer fun to look at the topics in genchat and it's driving people away.

I think I just popped a bubble in my head...why don't we have all the webcomics here integrate themselves to the AC? We have readers, and hopefully some of them have the time to join in. You can even have themes based on fanart from each webcomic we have. Once we have the content, then maybe that Devart account for the BWDC would actually be interesting enough to attract new members on it's own.

I think the contest would benefit from this. It would probably bring more traffic to ponju.net (and therefore the comics hosted therein). At the very least, it would serve as a nice backlog/archive that all contestants (past, present, and future) could enjoy.

I don't think any voting should be done from there or anything... mostly use it to advertise and showcase the artwork. If any of the contestants have a DevArt account, you can link to them as well, bringing more people to their art galleries. Plus contestants could link back (with an icon even) to the BWDC from their DevArt profiles, again bringing the contest and Ponju more traffic. In my mind, it's a win-win situation.

I agree... It may be a good idea... check in with Ponju to make sure that's the kind of advertising and population we want since it'll increase the traffic of "one time use" accounts and the such... though new blood isn't bad at all..... I like the thought behind it...

Also, like AC says.. It'll be good showcase for the artists that participate or have participated... and the contest should remain in the Ponju forums and not "transeferred" in some way over to Deviantart or other sources. And as long as the topics stay fresh and its what people want... there'll always be participants. It might not increase as much as we'd like but it might be a way if we advertise that page correctly.

Only thing is to make sure that those or the one that runs the devart "group" has adequate time to constantly maintain it alone or otherwise such as with multiple ppl running it... (be sure to check the rules on devart since I recall reading something new about accounts based on groups... since some ppl were using those type of accounts to increase their favorites etc. count... shallow but some ppl are like that and the mods might not see it the right way...just a reminder)
