We have opened up the option to upload your own avatars. Please remember that avatars should be kept PG-13 and contain no nudity or offensive language. In the event that your avatar does become an issue it will be removed and a message sent your way. Let's keep it clean folks and everyone can enjoy themselves.

I'm still trying to figure out why some of the rank icons are missing as well as some of the avatars. The path is correct but the graphic doesn't seem to be loading.

While I've wanted this option for many years, I also understood and respected the old way.

Back when the forum was alive and thriving it was actually kind of cool the way personal avatars were handled. You got a new avatar slot as a reward for a certain number of posts, making it a perk to sticking around and being active.

None the less, the forum is a different place now, so I honestly think this way makes more sense.

I was going to post yesturday that I couldnt find the "Upload Custom" button or slot, but I never got around to it, but you are on the ball as always hanna, thanks =).

I too always wondered why we didnt have this kind of system, but with as many users as we had back in the day, it would have been more difficult to scann all the uploaded avatars all the time, and I agree with what Xeo said about it being nice to have something to shoot for as far as Veterancy.

I can't seem to access any of the avatars... I went to the page to change it, and all it has one combobox letting me select which group to use - but it doesn't actually show any avatars in the groups. I also don't see any option for me to upload a new one for myself.

Sure Kaze =) Just post them and as long as they pass the quality, copyright, and guideline tests they are always welcome.

So, would I make a new thread for this? And to clarify, its 100x100, no larger than 20kb, and...I'm a little confused for the Copyright bit.

I'm actually going to refer this question to Rival since he has been in charge of avatars for quite awhile.

Concerning the copyright, if it's, for example, a piece of official art that has been publicly distributed for a show then it's fine. If it's screenshots from a show, it's also fine. However, using, say, panels from a comic book that you'd have to purchase, that's no go. Same with art from Deviantart or such places, unless you have express permission from the artist.

Publicly submitted avatars also need to follow a naming convention and have a proper border, but I can't for the life of me find the relevant thread.

I created a Help File out of the original post. You can now access it here by clicking on the Public Avatar Submission link. Please be aware that the .psd file seems to have been removed and so we will need to figure out a way to find another copy or make one.

Testing out something for awhile. You can now upload avatars that are 150x300 as long as they are less than 20 kb.

I think the new forum code handles the avatars a bit better but it will have to be done on a trial basis. If it gets to be overwhelming we should know pretty fast.
